Congratulations to Class of 2018 Valedictorian Nora Honkomp and Salutatorian Sara Roell!
McAuley High School congratulates its 2018 Valedictorian, Nora Honkomp, and Salutatorian, Sara Roell!
Valedictorian Nora Honkomp plans to major in Zoology and minor in Dance at Kent State University. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to attend graduate school. Nora says her favorite classes at McAuley were Chemistry, Drama and World Religions. At McAuley, Nora was heavily involved in theatre, and was a part of 12 McAuley performances. She was also president of Drama Club, a Cappies critic, and a thespian. Aside from drama, she was president of knitting club for three years, a member of National Honor Society, a student ambassador, and a chair for the F.A.C.E. project. Nora attended grade school at John Paul II.
"McAuley has instilled in me a desire for personal excellence. I have learned to strive to be the best version of myself, to persevere even when faced with challenges, to gain knowledge from failures, and to celebrate my successes along with the success of others. McAuley has given me a community where I can comfortably practice leading and taking on responsibility without fear. I will cherish the multitude of relationships I have formed and all of the love, support, and growth that has come from them," said Nora.
Salutatorian Sara Roell plans to major in religious education with minors in pastoral leadership and French at Marian University. Her career aspirations include doing missionary work and being a high school religion teacher/campus minister. Sara says her favorite classes at McAuley have been Catholic Social Teaching, French, and Creative Writing. During her years at McAuley, Sara was involved in orchestra, varsity softball, MERFettes, Key Club, National Honor Society, French Honor Society, History Honor Society, Women In Technology, Ambassador Club, Traveling Science Show, and she was an Emmaus retreat leader. She was also in LaSalle's Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. Sara attended grade school at St. John the Baptist in Harrison.
"McAuley has taught me to truly be myself and pursue any and all of my interests. The countless opportunities for faith, service, and excellence are what have made my time at McAuley some of the best years of my life. I will always cherish the friendships I've made and the relationships that I've built among teachers, students, and my community. McAuley is such a radiant and loving community and I will always remember the memories I've created while becoming a compassionate and independent woman," said Sara.
McAuley's Baccalaureate Mass for the Class of 2018 will take place on Monday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at McAuley. Commencement Exercises will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sharonville Convention Center.
