What Parents Need to Know:
Cincinnati SportsMedicine has been working with area high schools for over 25 years and understands the need to quickly and safely assess athletic injuries. For this reason your school has been assigned a Certified Athletic Trainer from Cincinnati SportsMedicine to make routine after school visits and cover home events should an injury occur. These athletic trainers can help triage injuries and recommend a proper treatment plan to minimize missed practices and games.
Should your child or family member need to see a physician for an injury, you can be assured the Staff at Cincinnati SportsMedicine will offer the best care possible. With our 9 Orthopaedic Physicians trained specifically in sports medicine and 5 offices conveniently located throughout Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky, we are able to see your children usually within 24 hours. In addition, we have On-Site X-Ray and Physical Therapy at every office and accept a majority of insurance plans making it easier for parents to schedule.
When to Call the Doctor:
A parent should schedule the athlete with a sports medicine trained orthopaedic physician if:
- an athlete hears/feels a pop, snap, or tearing sensation, of if there is any type of
deformity, intense pain or swelling.
- the condition worsens within 24 hours or a problem isn't improving and limits function or
performing an activity.
- the athlete has restricted range of motion, can't bear weight, or their strength has not
returned to that of the opposite extremity.
- pain and swelling are persistent and have not improved within 1-2 days, despite rest,
ice, compression, and elevation.
