McAuley’s Service and Justice Program

McAuley's "Adopt a Family" Project is just one of our many service opportunities!
McAuley’s service and justice student leaders came together this year to form a more cohesive program where service projects, charity collections, and social justice issues can be viewed as a system that can work together. Our goal is to provide connections for students between a service project, the money we collect for it, and the social justice issue behind it all. We are trying to find ways to look for systemic changes in our society. For example, we do rehabbing for an apartment in Over-the-Rhine; we hold an all school collection for Mary Magdalene House in Over-the-Rhine, so why not hold a gathering to learn more about why people are homeless and in need of these services.
McAuley’s Service and Justice Program includes three important groups in which anyone may participate.
Service Projects with Key Club/ Service & Immersion Trips
K.E.Y. Club, (Kiwanis Educating Youth), is McAuley’s largest club. All service projects sponsored by McAuley are offered through Key Club. Any student can choose to participate in a Key Club project at anytime throughout the year, whether she is an official member or not. Key Club is run by the Key Club Board, a group of dedicated students and their moderator.
McAuley also offers several summer service and immersion trips. Mission teams are chosen each year and sent to places such as the Bosco Home for Boys in Jamaica, Mission Honduras, and Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida.
Charity Collections with M.E.R.F.
McAuley students donate their money for a charitable organization every Friday. This is the McAuley Emergency Relief Fund, or MERF. The organizations are determined by a team of students and adults called the MERF Council, who are also responsible for the organzation of collections. These collections are then coordinated by the MERFettes (representatives) in each homeroom.
Social Justice Issues and Events
Social justice issues that arise throughout the year within our school, our city, our nation, and our world are discussed and supported through this group.
