Music (Vocal & Instrumental)
McAuley’s music program, led by Music Director Mary White, provides a wide range of opportunities for students interested in vocal and/or instrumental music.
Vocal Ensemble – Our award-winning Vocal Ensemble sings in approximately 20 community performances each year, and at numerous McAuley school Masses and events throughout the school year. Auditions for McAuley’s Vocal Ensemble are held in January. Together with the Vocal Ensemble from LaSalle High School, our Vocal Ensemble participates in several annual national competitions. In 2015, the Vocal Ensembles from McAuley and LaSalle performed together in the Heritage Music Festival in Nashville and received numerous awards including four Gold Awards for Mixed Concert Choir, Show Choir, Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, as well as the Festival Gold Award and a Maestro Award. They competed in "Festival Disney" in Orlando in 2016, where they received Superior Ratings for Show Choir, Mixed Choir, Men's Choir and Women's Choir. The groups were also awarded "BEST in Class" for Mixed Choir and Show Choir.
Chorus – Students of all experience levels may take our chorus class, which aims to develop students’ music reading, sight-singing ability, vocal production and stage presence. The Chorus performs at various school activities and at the Christmas and Spring concerts, some of which include combined concerts with the choral department at LaSalle High School.
Orchestra/Concert Band – Open to all students who know how to play an instrument, this class meets three days a week before school. Members perform in the Christmas and Spring Concerts, the Spring Musical, Graduation, and many other McAuley events. A “Beginning Orchestra/Concert Band” class is also offered to students who have never played an instrument, or who once played and would like to play again. Individual coaching is provided and is open to students of all grade levels. These students may be placed into the full Orchestra/Concert Band as determined by the Music Director.
Many of our orchestra/concert band members are also members of the Pride of LaSalle Marching Band, and many have been invited to participate in area Honor Bands with organizations such as Ohio Music Education Association, Xavier University, and more. One of our 2016 grads toured with the Boston Crusaders Drum Corp, a semi-professional marching band.
Piano Lab – McAuley’s Piano Lab course provides an opportunity for students of all levels to play the piano in a lab setting. Beginners learn how to play the piano, to read music and play basic tunes, and experienced piano students learn new music and improve their skills.
